Dr. Darren Wittenberger completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. He received a D.D.S. degree with high honors from the University of Missouri - Kansas City College of Dentistry. He subsequently earned his Certificate of Specialization and Master of Science degree in orthodontics from the University of Iowa, unique in its emphasis in surgical-orthodontic treatment.
A native of Columbia, Missouri, Dr. Wittenberger returned home in 2003 to establish his practice of orthodontics. In addition, in 2005, he started a satellite orthodontic practice in Kirksville, MO. He and his lovely wife Rachael have been married since 1999. She is a physical therapist, but is currently staying home to raise their three children: Jonah, Adia and Elias.
Dr. Wittenberger values collaborating with other dental professionals. He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Missouri Society of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Missouri Dental Association, and Columbia Dental Society. In addition he joined the Cleft Lip and Palate Team at the University of Missouri Children's Hospital in 2006, undergoing training at New York University for nasoalveolar molding. In 2007, Dr. Wittenberger became board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics.
Consistently looking for new ways to improve his treatment techniques, Dr. Wittenberger feels it is important to keep up with advances in orthodontics. He currently uses digital radiography, photographs, and orthodontic study models as well as electronic treatment records. For those looking for an alternative to traditional braces, he offers Invisalign and clear orthodontic brackets for appropriate cases. He has also incorporated self-ligating brackets into his practice which can help reduce the time and number of appointments during treatment.
In his free time, Dr. Wittenberger enjoys spending time with his family, sporting events, playing the drums, movies, concerts, and exercising. Dr. Wittenberger is excited to be part of the Columbia dental community and strives to offer his patients the most current technology in the field of orthodontics.
